Top Tips For Brawlhalla Beginners

 Top Tips For Brawlhalla Beginners

Don’t let the cutesy designs and simplistic movement fool you; Brawlhalla is not an easy game to master. However, this doesn’t mean it is inaccessible to newer players and, in fact, it does a great job of bringing in new players. With a plethora of characters with different skills and styles, players are invited to go for whoever they want and improve significantly.

So, if you’re getting started in Brawlhalla and want to improve, my biggest piece of advice will be; play a LOT. This is a simple tip that is a constant for improvement in any game. There is literally no guide you’ll come across teaching you how to get better in Brawlhalla that won’t include a tip about playing or practicing, so let’s just get that out of the way.

With all that said, here are some of the most essential tips which have helped me get better in Brawlhalla and will help you too.

Jump More

 Top Tips For Brawlhalla Beginners

Okay, just hear me out for a moment. I know most fighting games frown at taking to the skies too often as it limits your gameplay and causes you to become quite predictable. But, it’s a little different in Brawlhalla as jumping is a very important skill to utilize when playing. Unfortunately, many new players try to stick to the ground game and find themselves being pulverized. You must understand that in this game, anti-airs aren’t what you typically used to, and the jumping game is necessary for victory. Not only jumping but mastering movement in Brawlhalla will go such a long way in improving your skills. To help out with this, it is advisable to get into the training mode and practice moving and jumping. Do double jumps, triple jumps, and dashing, as these are all tools you’ll find yourself using a lot, so ensure you have them figured out as soon as possible.

Light attacks are your friend.

Brawlhalla is not Tekken in that the characters aren’t blessed with 100 combos and moves. However, each Legend has a signature move which is pretty cool. For many beginners, the temptation will be to use the sigs at any given moment. This is called ‘sig spamming,’ and while it might get you a win or two, it will land you in trouble as time goes on as you’ll find yourself unable to fight any other way. On the other hand, if you start getting the hang of light attacks, it’ll elevate your gameplay and make you much less predictable. Not only that, but light attacks are way faster and are easy to string together to deal damage on your opponent and toss them off the stage. Practice playing whole matches without the help of signature moves and get used to using other attacks.

Learn to Edge Guard

Edge guarding is a skill in which you police the edge of the stage to ensure that your opponent cannot jump back unto the stage safely. It is an essential skill, and while it might seem advanced, it really isn’t. You simply need to utilize the jump skill and learn to read the recovery patterns of opponents. If you make use of the fast drop skill and learn to effectively time your jumps to strike your opponent back down, you’ll be a pretty superb edge guard.

Master Recovery

On the flip side, if you are the one knocked off the stage, you’ll find yourself being edge guarded by the enemy and will have to figure out a way to get back on the stage. This isn’t the easiest skill to master, but it's hardly rocket science either. The key skill to mastering recovery in Brawlhalla is patience. Most times, when you find yourself knocked off the stage, you will panic and try to get back on the stage as quickly as possible. This is unwise as you’ll only end up wasting precious jumps and falling off the stage. The best way to counteract this is practise. Start to practice by jumping off the stage voluntarily and then learn to get back on the platform in a calm manner. Relax, you have a few jumps at your disposal; jump, wait for a beat, before jumping again.

Watch Others

The major preoccupation for players is to play, so it can be hard to take a second and watch others play, but it is vital in the growth process. Watch players of higher ranks play the game and see what they do. It would be preferable to watch players who use the same character as you, or at least the same weapon, so you can pick up on tips and tricks you will never have been able to learn on your own. There are so many tournaments for Brawlhalla happening every week, and if you don’t know where to go, check out the official Twitch channel.

Review performances

Perhaps the hardest tip is reviewing your old matches. I know how difficult it is because I find it almost impossible to do, but if you are serious about getting better at Brawlhalla, you’ll have to do it. After a loss or even a win, take a few minutes to rewatch the match to see where you might have gotten it wrong. You can also get a friend who knows about the game to watch with you as they might pick up on things you’ll miss. This way, you can zero in on your mistakes and tendencies and improve on them.

Brawlhalla is such a fun game, and as long as you give it the time, the experience will always be rewarding. I hope this guide has been of some help and perhaps might give you a few tips you might not find everywhere else. If you have any tips of your own, why not leave them in the comments below. Till next time.
