Gal*Gun Double Peace was originally released in 2015 on the PlayStation 4 and Vita systems. A year later, it arrived on Steam with positive reviews despite some stability issues. Thankfully, the Switch version runs well. Not long after the Steam release, this title was banned in New Zealand for being “objectionable”.
Like many Japanese anime, Gal*Gun Double Peace takes place in a high school setting. Your character is a male student named Houdai. His personality type varies depending on what stereotype you pick for him. I decided to go with the Bookworm as he’s more compatible with smart girls. Other options include: Jock, Fashionista, and Pervert. New character types that are unlocked after playing through the game at least once are: Nothing Special, Gentleman, Hentai Fiend, and TFG (That Friggin' Guy). Each personality type has varying levels of intelligence, athleticism, style, and lewdness. The trait levels attract some girls and deter others. You can bolster Houdai’s traits by purchasing enhancers at the school store. Other items for sale include HP boosters, defense enhancements, and weapon upgrades. You can also buy cursed items to lower your stats if desired.
Once your character is created, he’ll begin the story with a retelling of the legend of the super popular guy from several years ago. Little does he know that he’s about to re-enact that legend. On the school campus is a cupid in training named Ekoro. As she’s about to fire her shot, she discovers a demon agent targeting him as well. Ekoro takes her shot during a small window of opportunity, but shoots Houdai with a full power blast which is the equivalent of thirty-two arrows. As a result of this massive overdose, every school girl on campus confesses their love for Houdai. However, Houdai has to find his one true love on the campus and only has one day to do it or face a life of misery.
Strong Points: Fun gameplay; silly premise and dialogue options; multiple routes/endings
Weak Points: Lots of loading screens
Moral Warnings: By shooting girls with pheromones you bring them to an orgasmic state; you’ll see up skirts and girls in their bra and underwear, minor language (hell, crap)
Gal*Gun Double Peace is an on-rails shooter meaning that your movements are limited to where the game guides you. Many of the levels give you some choices on which direction to take, but most of the time you’ll feel like you’re on a slow moving rollercoaster. While the game is navigating your character through the levels, you’ll be focusing on aiming the targeting reticule on the girls coming your way. Each lady has a weak spot that you’ll have to target to disarm them and bring them to a state of euphoria. Their weak spots will either be their head, chest, hips, or legs. Watch for their reactions to see if you’re hitting them in the right area.
Shooting your weapon is done by pressing the Y button. By holding down the Y button you’ll charge your shot to make it more powerful. Doki-Doki mode is activated by pressing the X button. This is a zoomed in touching mini-game where you’ll have to touch girls in random spots to max up their euphoria gauge before the time runs out.
When shot with your pheromone arrows or touched in Doki-Doki mode, the girls make orgasmic noises as they collapse to the floor. Even if they’re ultimately rejected by your character, there doesn’t seem to be any hard feelings. With each play-through, you can select a different love interest to pursue. There are multiple endings both good and bad. As you complete each route, you’ll unlock character art that you can view in the gallery.

Despite the sexual overtones, your goal is to find true love and not just a fling. Whomever your love interest is, chances are they’ll find themselves in precarious positions and you’ll have to win them over by rescuing them multiple times throughout their route. For example, one of the girls gets stuck in a window and you’ll have to interact with her behind to push and pull her in order to help her squeeze out. I cracked up at the dialogue option to pretend her butt was a set of bongo drums and smack it accordingly. That option probably would have offended her and guaranteed a bad ending. I highly recommend utilizing multiple save files to redo the boss levels to make sure their feelings are maxed out and retrying the level if you have room for improvement.
The visuals are pretty good with the anime-style girls. The school environments are a bit bland at times, but serviceable. I liked the outdoor levels more. Along with shooting the girls with pheromone arrows, there are some other targets worth hitting including pink plushy-like creatures and student data files. You’ll have to be quick on the draw to hit these items.
Since the voice acting is in Japanese, it’s hard to tell what the girls are saying when they’re speaking without subtitles. Minor language is present with words like hell and crap. Sexual references are more prevalent. You can expect to see up the girl's skirts and you’ll get to see some of them in their undergarments.
While the concept is indeed silly, I can’t deny that it’s well executed and fun to play. I certainly don’t recommend it if you’re struggling with lust, though. If you don’t mind loading screens and a $10 premium over the PC version, it’s worth considering if you’re a fan of the series.
