Thank you Samurai Punk for sending us this game to review!
In 2016 I reviewed Eagle Flight which is a VR game that lets you fly like an eagle and soar across Paris. Feather doesn’t take place in Paris, but it’s nearly identical in appearance and controls. You start off as an eagle and the only difference between the two games is the lack of goals in Feather.
Feather has a combined single-player and online mode. Since I couldn’t find anyone online to fly with, I can’t comment on it. The single-player mode starts off with a brief tutorial and lets you take control from there. If you forget the controls, you can go through the tutorial again to refresh your memory. The controls are pretty intuitive with the joysticks controlling the direction and camera angle. The ZR trigger will make the bird fly faster while the ZL trigger will slow it down. The L and R bumpers will have the bird do a barrel roll. The X button will turn you around.

Strong Points: Pretty visuals, serene music
Weak Points: No direction or objectives, just fly; nobody online to fly with; frame rate drops
Moral Warnings: You can crash into things or drown, there is no blood, the game will rewind and you can try again
There are no objectives or goals other than staying airborne. In the event that you crash into something or drown; the game will rewind a bit and give you a chance to correct your flight pattern and move on. There is no blood or moral issues in this family-friendly title. In fact, there are no enemies to worry about in this game.
As you fly around you can zoom through clouds and touch the waters to catch fish. The island has several circular rings to fly through, though not much happens after doing so. Flying through a triangle will change your bird skin/type. For example, you can change from an eagle to a seagull.

The visuals are so similar to Eagle Flight that I’m honestly surprised that Ubisoft has not sued the developers. The graphics are very colorful, and I like how the weather and time of day/night changes to keep things somewhat interesting. With no guidance or storyline, I don’t see how this game will keep one’s attention very long unless they really enjoy the calming and pretty atmosphere. One thing worth noting is that the Switch hardware is being pushed to its limits in this game and the frame rate drops are noticeable.
The background piano music is relaxing and very fitting for this game. When it rains, the sound effects are very realistic. By pressing the Y button, your bird can squawk, and that sounds believable too.
Other than being relaxing and pretty, I don’t see much appeal to this $9.99 title. I also don’t know what I’m missing out on with the online portion being dead. Because of the limitations, I wouldn’t recommend paying full price for this title. I’d wait for a sale.
