Because it's just... it's the culmination of every Mario game before it, without having the problems of the ones that followed it. And yes, SMB3 is followed closely by SMW and Yoshi's Island.

My friend was going to trade me his Zelda DS for a Cobalt DS that I would purchase... but... DSi takes precedent. And... I don't really want a played DS.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of used systems. Games, to be sure, but not systems. Though I'm not sure if the addition of a camera and browser are enough for me to want to purchase another one.
