It does snow in northern parts. Once every few years Jerusalem gets snow too.

I don't know that that's exactly the best way of determining whether it snows or not. Desert is more decided by geological features than climate I thought. I actually think I heard about snow there a year or so back (for all I know it could have been five, my memory is really messed up).

Well, if I remember correctly I thought I heard that the lack of rain was often caused by mountains getting in the way of the clouds and the land the desert was on being below sea level... Though it probably is the amount of rain that is measured to determine if it's a desert or not.
