1.8 and before: very dull, only point to come is for the end stone and to defeat the ender dragon.
1.9 and later: more exciting, end ships really make up for the boringness, though they could be more common...
PC, I've never really got to experience a Mac. Though we just recently got a MacBook Pro, so I might get to experience with that.
