I've seen bear sign, never managed to see a bear though.

Not in those terms no, though, I have caused similar effects mentally.

Depends on what living truly is, or if death is really the worst one can cause.

I would say having your every heartbeat a death knell and every breath taken regretfully would be worse, and that life is only living if you wish it to continue.
