It depends entirely on the context of what we're talking about.

If it's a video game, start leveling up another character. Or do a corpse run. Or reload from a save point and try again.

If it's while writing, realize that the epic hero probably would have steamrolled the rest of the novel and needed to be removed in order to create a story that might actually be interesting to someone else.

If it's while reading someone else's work (or watching a movie, or a TV show, etc...), realize that the author of that work probably had the same idea I would have.

I find it annoying. >_>

Ever seen "Them!"?

The classic, not the chumpy newer movie with the same title.

I can understand why the author can take the approach. Think of it like this....

Author: I tried to emulate the eternal struggle between good and evil, especially in the sixth chapter where the hero is struggling with what he views as his own evil actions in order to serve the greater good. I hope that the reader will use my hero's plights to reflect on their own inner struggles.

Typical Reader: AND THEN DID YOU SEE WHAT HE DID WITH THE GUN?!? IT WAS LIKE ZAP BOOM HA HA HA HA HA! I LOVED HOW HE GOT SPRAYED WITH ALL THE BLOOD AND HOW THE DUDE'S HEAD BOUNCED DOWN THE HALL!

Author: ... OK, I think I'm going to rewrite it. Or purchase every copy and burn them. I haven't decided yet....

I haven't seen either version. I've heard of it, but I tend to have little interest in watching horror movies.

I had never heard of it until I looked it up. Why do you ask?
Emwok wrote:Terminator?
Terminator 2 used to be my favoritest movie of all time. But, of course, the best movie would be the one they haven't filmed yet.

Skynet goes active and the machines manage to conquer the world. Or at least the land. Shortly after declaring victory, the seas part to reveal a massive reptilian head....

Terminator vs. Godzilla! Coming never to a theater near someone else!

(Hmm... Skynet vs. GLaDOS? That could be an interesting match-up....)

To me, I would see that as a classic case of overthinking on the authors part. I think writing an intensely graphic, violent action scene, then expecting people to take it as something more than a climax is asking a lot.

But then, I'm only a casual author, so...

Throwing dice at people's head might be considered bad manners?

Usually... but sometimes it's deserved.

I only just heard of it too. It was a fun hour long diversion, looking up the backstory and stuff.

It can be a bit gruesome.
Emwok wrote:Robocop?
... but not nearly as gruesome as the original of this franchise. That was the only one of the series I watched, but even that was enough for me. Interesting story, but they relied way too much on excessive gore to tell it.

I have heard the name, but I've never read the books, nor have I watched the movie. Do you recommend it?

Useful for plants to make more plants. Although I don't think it's called a "tunnel." More of a "blossom."

If you're referring to carpal tunnel, though, it's extremely annoying. Fortunately, I suffer more from writer's cramp than carpal tunnel.

I know of it, but I have never seen it, nor have I read the books.

...

I seem to be saying something along those lines a lot lately. I suppose a big part of that is because I'd rather be an active part of the story, rather than merely a spectator. I tend to prefer gaming than sitting around watching things on the screen.
