I do not know. Seems like...a whole lot of waste to me.

Well, the old salty ones who use something like SVN or (God forbid) Borland StarTeam might.ArchAngel wrote:Haven't used Github, or even Git. My company tried using Mercurial for a while, but it seems like a lot of developers have a hard time switching to a distributed revision system.

Git is pretty amazing. It does everything I need it to do, and it's a great way to move projects across workstations.
What do you think of the concept of a code portfolio?

I wish it was SVN. We had this atrocious software called Vault. I can't believe they paid money for it.
We now moved to TFS, which I'm not particularly thrilled about. One of the downsides of working at a microsoft shop.
A code portfolio could come in handy for some jobs, but I don't have one. Honestly, I don't really know what I'd put in there. It feels a little odd to me. Unlike art work or design, code isn't written for itself, it's to solve a problem. Like, do you write some code that looks pretty nice, but really doesn't do anything? And on a bigger scale than just well managed code, what design structures do you choose to manage your software? A code portfolio begins to look like a full software package.
So, I don't know. Some employers ask for code samples, which it would help then, but I don't know much about putting one together.
