Inception - Awesome! I saw really complicated charts and discussions of the movie on the internet, so I was afraid I wasn't going to be able to understand the movie, that it would be too difficult to follow for me, but I got it just fine except for maybe a few small details. I like it more than Memento (another puzzle movie by Nolan) because Inception was emotionally engaging as well as intellectually, and Memento, while a fun puzzle to solve, left me fairly cold on the emotional level. I like Inception about equal with The Prestige, which I also really love. I'll buy this on DVD.
Shrek: Forever After - The story and theme were good, but there weren't as many jokes as the previous movies had and fewer good songs. Still pretty decent. Maybe I'll buy it someday to complete the collection.

The Tomb
Rant:
Spoiler:
Here's my recipe for this movie:
In a bowl, take one short story. Excise anything but the characters names.
Invert the basic story of Twilight and add to first bowl.
Add in poor acting, no real point, and low budget special effects to taste.
Burn in the fires of Angband until anything remotely in good taste is eliminated.
Anyway. This movie's original title was Edgar Allen Poe's Ligeia. The fact that changed the title is the only thing keeping me from attacking the people that came up with this pathetic excuse for a film on sight. Because, as noted above, it isn't actually based on the short story.
And it's not that the basic premise is entirely horrible. For that matter, I'd not have minded it's blatant disregard for the Poe story if it had been well done. It still wouldn't have been great, but it wouldn't have entirely sucked.
But no. Even if I ignored the plot holes I could drive a battleship through blindfolded, there's still that little matter of having to see people souls being sucked out of their bodies via something that looks like a cyberpunk/S&M face mask and a simple metal bottle, which they are then contained in. Oh, and then you see the peoples faces...in the blue mist floating around in the soul bottle.
Oh, and for effect the lights go out every time a soul is sucked out. Even though the mask thing is not plugged in to the power system. And even when they're just being moved from bottle to bottle.
The "symbolism" present pretty much amounts to rather juvenile "o look wat we did heer, lol" moments. Like when Ligeia is seducing the guy (because that's even remotely like the original...) the camera flashes to a snake toying with and eating a rat. Subtle, eh?
Of course this movie tries to be scary. And isn't even close. Ever. The creepy little girl who's eyes turn black as the lighting flashes? Yeah, we just saw a bunch of smoke go into her. See kids, this is why you don't smoke pot. You'll get possessed by dead people who are possessed by other dead people.
Worst part of all of it? They not only gave it a happy ending, they ended it with a sequel setup. And apparently there's a bit of something in the end credits. Won't be watching it.
*sigh*
I hate Hollywood.

The Sorcerer's Apprentice
Definitely liked this. Felt oddly like a superhero origins story, though. Not a bad thing as it was well done... but I half expect a trilogy to follow.
The fact that Doc Ock (Alfred Molina) was in it didn't hurt.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
The best thing to happen to this series was moving on from Disney. Let me say that movie-wise, this was much, much stronger than the first and the other that shall remain un-mentioned. Acting was stronger, shooting was stronger, combat was pretty much the same, characters were better.

Oh?
Pity, because I forced my way out of watching it in 3D this afternoon.
The Warrior's Way.
This movie... umm... well...yeah.
Every ninja cliche combined with a bunch of Western cliches and a troupe of circus freaks. It wasn't a bad popcorn movie, but...yeah.

Much better than the first two. Had some "oh barf" moments, but still a fairly OK movie.

Ew, Eclipse....
I last watched Inception. It blew me away. Definitely one of the best movies of the year, if not one of the best I have ever seen. Acting, story, pacing, all top notch. Couldn't have been better, in my opinion.
A+

Leon: The Professional
Got this on Netflix after hearing great stuff about it. It follows Leon as a "cleaner". He's the best at what he does, and he does it alone; until a young girl's family next door is killed and he takes her in. It's really entertaining, and heartwarming to see Leon transform from a lonely anti-social hitman to a hitman that's got a reason to live. Reminds me of Man on Fire in some ways. However, some scenes weirded me out. There was a bit too much sexual tension going on between a 12 year old girl and a full grown man. It never got to be ridiculous/offensive, but it definitely made things awkward. Gary Oldman played a perfect antagonist, as usual.

Restrepo
Also found this on Netflix. It's a documentary by Sebastian Junger (who wrote The Perfect Storm) about a platoon of US soldiers in the most hostile area in Afghanistan. They experience multiple firefights a day, and according to the film, approximately 70% of all ammunition was fired there. What appealed to me most about this film was its lack of bias. Too many films about the war in the Middle East are liberal/conservative slanted. This just shows it. However, the material itself can be left to interpretation on how it impacts the viewer.

Memento
Third time I've seen it. Yet now I'm confused more than ever. Probably due to the fact I watched it on my tv instead of the laptop, so I saw shots I hadn't seen previously.
A+

I read the books, and my sister adores them. I basically had no choice, so I went into it with an open mind.

Scott Pilgrim vs the World - neat concept I didn't get as many video game references as Jay did. Lots of gay stuff.
