It was far from the critical darling that Taken was, but despite the thrashing it took from most of the critics, it was a perfectly serviceable buddy action/comedy. It's really nothing special (except for a terrific Pulp Fiction reference that brought a huge grin to my face), but it's a solid action flick and a great rental to pick up and watch with someone over a bowl of popcorn. Travolta was great fun as usual.
I just watched this last night, too. I agree with this assessment. Tons of fun in a movie that didn't take itself too seriously. I don't know that I would have actually wanted anything changed. Was it a mindblowing movie? Nah. I'm pretty sure it never said it was, though.

Also...

Edge of Darkness

I loved this a lot. It wasn't what I expected, and that's for the better.

I will be renting this tonight, most likely. Associate discounts FTW!

Just now, I watched Jackie Chan's new movie Shinjuku Incident. This is absolutely NOT Jackie Chan's traditional lighthearted fare; it even goes beyond his semi-serious Hong Kong flicks. This is one extremely dark and gritty movie about illegal immigration, corruption, and gang warfare. There isn't much action (no kung fu to be found anywhere), but it is quite violent. It wasn't amazing, but it was certainly an intense experience.

well, it wasn't bad, or really good, but it was a decent enough movie. The acting was alright, the CGI was really good, and to top it all, I watched it in Blu-Ray on a 1080p television.

Not bad, not amazing. Decent conspiracy thriller, but I found it rather predictable.

B

Shutter Island

Still one of the best films of the year.

A

Old Dogs

Mildly funny. Travolta and Williams had some funny banter but the movie as a whole was very uninspired.

C

The Box

Fascinating, intriguing, and more than a little creepy. It drew me in more than I expected, and surprised me more than I was ready for (no pun intended).

Pretty good, though I haven't the foggiest on how it got the Best Picture award. Surely there were better films created last year....

Wow. Was a really good movie. It's not Oscar-level stuff, but it preserves the spirit of the show and what made the show amazing. Too bad you couldn't say that for Transformers or G.I. Joe. (Though G.I. Joe did a better job than Transformers....not by much) It is in this light that I rate the film what I did. It was also one of the most fun movies I've seen this year. As a side note, the casting was excellent. I especially enjoyed Murdock and Face, though Baracus and Hannibal were done well too.

Shutter Island - I enjoyed it, but I could see the plot twist from a mile away. I wish I had read the book first. B

Mullholland Dr. - I couldn't tell you what this was about if I tried, but I enjoyed it... I think. A- (?)

Not as bad as peep's were saying. I mean, it's a Jackie Chan action flick...you don't see it for the story. You watch it for the blooper reel at the end.
