Prince of Persia: Sands of Time

Sure it wasn't groundbreaking but it's a good movie.

Hopefully seeing Prince of Persia in the next few days. It won't be great, but I'll enjoy it.

The Losers - Now this is a movie that knew exactly what it was and went all out with big guns, big explosions, and a ridiculously over the top villain. The cast is pretty top-notch with Chris Evans stealing the show, but everyone else giving what they got. B

By the way, you can tell from the directing credits of Sylvain White that he's had experience with directing sequences of films set to specific music, it shows, and the movie is significantly better for it.

The Road

Just like the book, it had an aggressively dark tone and was quite depressing. Also like the book, it was beautifully done and conveyed the reality of a post-apocalyptic landscape in stunning fashion.

Top Gun

Classic, cheesy, 80's. Three words to describe this movie? I think so. It was a pretty decent flight movie.

Also tried to watch She's The Man but found it too awkward to finish. I only got 33 minutes in. XD

Prince of Persia, I liked it. Good movie, never played the games but I think if there's a game you could turn into a movie and make it pretty good. That's it.

Black Dynamite

Hysterical. I love the 70s Blaxploitation flicks, and this was a perfect spoof of them. A lot of people won't "get it", but those who understand the era and the genre will have a blast.

Ninja Assassin

Very dumb and incredibly violent, but I must admit, I had a lot of fun watching it.

The Karate Kid and The Karate Kid Part II

Love those movies.

Sherlock Holmes

Very entertaining, and Downey, Jr. knocks it out of the park as usual. A lot of fun and moved quickly. I loved the foreshadowing for Moriarty.

B+

Mystery Team

Filled with inappropriate humor, but it's a very silly indie film made by Derrick Comedy group. I think I might have to buy this one, I want to support this extremely talented trio.

B+

Legion

I only watched this because my job requires I know about all the new releases. It honestly wasn't as horrible as I expected, but it was far from good. It only gets really exciting in the last half hour, and the movie's logic was atrocious. Very stupid, but it's mindless entertainment if you can get past the hopelessly muddy theology (which ends up sort of redeeming itself at the end, the reason why I didn't mark it lower).

C

Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

Beautifully done, the plot was complex and really pulled me in. Heath Ledger's swan song found him performing magnificently as usual, and Terry Gilliam's inspired direction once again solidifies his status as one of the great fantasy directors of our time.

A-

Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland

Dreadful. I didn't like anything about this movie. Compared to his other movies, this one felt horribly bland and uninspired, despite the vibrant colors. The pacing was bad, the plot itself was completely uninteresting, and every actor (except for Stephen Fry as the Cat) turned in a very unimpressive performance. This includes Johnny Depp, whose Mad Hatter was a depressing and dismal character that did not need to be a central player. Commence hating.

Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny

Oh man. I absolutely loved this movie. It's everything I expected: a completely stupid, ridiculous, ego-boosting riot about the band. Sorta. Lots of cussing, and even more stupidity, but I laughed a ton.

Probably won't watch it again, though.

The Marine 2

Now, it's no secret that I loved the first Marine with John Cena. It was one of those movies that had tons of impossible explosions, endless bullets fired, and absolutely dreadful one-liners. It knew all of this and didn't take itself seriously for a second. It was a silly, action packed popcorn flick. Imagine my disappointment when I expected more of the same for its sequel. This one is a completely by-the-numbers, vanilla action movie that takes itself way too seriously and was way, way too predictable. Granted, I was impressed by some great direction and cinematography, and the tropical island looks beautiful, but the movie as a whole was just way too generic to be fun in any way.

C-

Bad Lieutenan: Port of Call New Orleans

Nic Cage is the main attraction here. He plays an absolutely vile character, and his downward spiral is difficult to watch, but the performance he turns out is absolutely extraordinary.

What is this? First you say that you didn't hate Legion, and now you're saying you loved the Marine? You're two for two right now. I thought I was the only one around here who would make those claims.

Glad I'm not alone.

Right on!

I just watched From Paris With Love. It was far from the critical darling that Taken was, but despite the thrashing it took from most of the critics, it was a perfectly serviceable buddy action/comedy. It's really nothing special (except for a terrific Pulp Fiction reference that brought a huge grin to my face), but it's a solid action flick and a great rental to pick up and watch with someone over a bowl of popcorn. Travolta was great fun as usual.
