Would it be possible to explain something to me about Half Life 2 and my PC?

Or rather, my parents PC.

It's This

The minimum machine specs for decent performance on H-L 2 are 1.2GHz CPU with 256MB RAM, Win 98/ME/2000/XP and a DirectX 7 capable graphics card. Recommended system specs are: a 2.4 GHz CPU with 512MB RAM, Windows 2000/XP and a DirectX 9 graphics card.

By all accounts, I should be able to play it smoothly, yet I cannot. is it the integrated graphics or something I'm missing (Like junkware running in the background?)?

Most likely integrated graphics.

How much are you willing to spend on a new graphics card?

i spent about 130 on mine. It's a Geforce 9500 GT.

Works great. So far it can run:

Crysis
Gears of war
Bioshock
TF2
CoD4 and WaW
BlackSite Area 51

This site might help Chozon. Worked for me.

Thanks Wampa. ^_^

Actually, I'm not really willing to spend anything on a graphics card. -_- Besides the fact I am incompetent in installing them, I plan to get a new PC after I (eventually) get a job.

Any advice for how to get it to run faster?

Well,

Try ending background tasks, (Ask if you don't know) Don't leave very many programs running in the background while playing, and (If all else fails) try increasing your paging file.

Ask if you don't know how to do this.

It's a whole lot of fun and scares.

I've got the whole ending background tasks thing. I even know how to fix it when I inevitably brick something. :D

But as to how to increase the paging file, I am lost.

Help me, sensei?

I'll check it out.

Well, honestly, I've been preferring NVIDIA, but ATI is starting to get better.

I mean ATI is looking really tempting.
