Easy. I haven't watched many movies released since The Dark Knight. >.>

Mostly... it's that it did everything I could want a movie to do in terms of worldview presentation without jumping into the realm of being preachy. It twisted and had a strong ending.

Spoiler in black: Nicholas Cage actually dying helped... but the fact that everyone died made me go "wow... the makers had the guts to do that."

So yes... I loved it... and was very pleasantly surprised by it. I expected to hate it.

Howl's Moving Castle

Absolutely fantastic animated film in every respect except one: It took about a full hour for me to actually care about the characters despite their charm.

Which really brought down my ability to totally rave about it.

Otherwise, it was creative, enchanting, very well voiced, the characters were quite charming... and the end made me go "aww" in the same way that Beauty and the Beast does.*

*Beauty and the Beast ranks incredibly high on my list of movies that I love. It's hands down my favorite animated Disney film. It's no small thing at all if I'm comparing these two films.

'Tis one of my favorite movies, that one.

Also... happy to see you liked Howl's, Kenny. I have the same complaints with it as you do, though. XD

I love Beauty and the Beast, and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

Also, I watched the last bit of the A&E version of Pride and Prejudice (not the more recent one starring Kierra Knightly). Another movie I'm a sucker for, and not ashamed to admit it.

Well, technically it's a miniseries not a movie, but anyway...

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Gotta agree with Obi on this one.

And I would like to add that I liked it probably the best of all the Harry Potter movies so far.

A-

(Higher than Obi's because I'm easily impressed in movies.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince - Not a bad movie but not a particularly good one either. The visuals and music were all fine, but the acting and story was bland. You would think that Daniel Radcliffe would have picked up some acting skills by now. I dunno, maybe it was the script, but it's like he was just there to stand around and look like Harry Potter. He didn't show much emotion at the end (which I won't spoil for those who haven't read the books). And I hate Hermione in the movies... her character in the movie is just kind of there. Ron's actor was the most impressive, but only because he got to act goofy in a couple of scenes. In fact, out of all the young actors in the movie, the guy who played Draco Malfoy was the only one who impressed me at all. Again, a lot of it had to do with the script, but I think if they got a cardboard cutout to play Harry Potter in the next movie it wouldn't make much difference. Meanwhile, people like Alan Rickman are woefully underused. This should have been Rickman's biggest movie in the series.

Anyway, not a terrible movie, just mediocre. And this was based on my favorite book in the series too. C+

Before the Devil Knows You're Dead

I enjoyed it even more this second time around. Perhaps it's being able to understand the plot from the get-go. I don't know. But I loved it.

A+

The Adventures of Bob & Doug McKenzie: Strange Brew

Oh man. I don't usually do pure stupid humor... but the McKenzies are an exception. The simple obsession with beer and its role as a motivator for everything in life... well... it makes the McKenzies pretty funny.

Over the top. Terribly cheesy. Stupid. And all kinds of beer.

So worth watching again, ya hosers. Now take off, eh.

Eagle Eye

It was a surprising bit of fun. Once of the overused, super bland "computer taking over the world" plot came out, I did a big eyes-roll, but it didn't subtract from some very thrilling scenes and some good performances from the cast (Shia impressed me here).

C

Dark City

It was like...just wow. I'm not sure what to say about it. I think I saw flaws, I know I saw genius, and I'm still unsure if I saw a masterpiece. Of one thing there is no doubt - this movie is a work of art. It is so uncompromisingly imaginative and boldly original that, in some places, it took my breath away. I think I need to watch this again and try to understand it, because I don't think it can be properly understood with one viewing.

For now, I give it an A.

Dang.

I'm afraid to say that I failed to be entertained by that movie.

Inkheart

Whoah.

I liked this movie, even though it seemed a bit kiddie at times.

I especially liked the humor injected into it. XD

Hm... I never read the book, so I can't comment on that, but I really wasn't all that impressed with it. But, each to his own...

Though, don't you think a 16-year-old portraying an 11-year-old is a bit much? :P

(Not that Hollywood does that a lot or anything... >.>)
