I like those options. Just know that .17 HMR rds are fairly pricey (at least around here). It's a good cartridge, but I'd only use one for hunting. Too expensive for plinking imo.Orodrist wrote:So, I'm pretty sure atm that I can't afford ammo for any centerfire in the long term. Or rather, any centerfire other than Soviet milsurp. So, I'm thinking CZ 452, Finnish Mosin Nagant M39, and a Yugo SKS to screw around with.
Failing that, I could stick with my jam-o-matic Remmy 597 for a .22 and try for the Tikka T3 Hunter .22-250 which I want with either a lower end Leupold or a Mueller varmint scope.
There's also the Sako Quad, which would be around $1300 for one rifle with barrels in .22 LR and Mag, and .17 HMR and Mach II. I'd still need a scope for that too.
What say you?
Have you shot your 597 yet? I get the impression that you have. <_<

I have. Not a lot, surprisingly, but I've put about 200 rounds through it since I've been here, with maybe 20-25 jams. Supposedly, with a 3rd gen alloy mag, as opposed to the 1st gen polymer one I have now, and some quality ammo I can get it to about a 99.9% reliability rate which isn't bad. If it works XD. It does have a decent 3-9x Simmons on it too. I'll be adding a Volquartsen hammer as well. Maybe float the barrel if it's not already.
So far as the .17's go, they aren't too expensive to plink with on my budget. Especially seeing as I plan on about 150 rnds/rifle/week of .22 LR, it wouldn't be too much to add maybe 50 of .17.
I may just buy a couple more .22's though. idk, I need to see the exact number on my check.
How're .30-30 ammo prices looking?

I've got a Simmons on my Marlin (a fixed 4x32) and it's not bad at all for a "cheap" scope.Orodrist wrote:I have. I love .22's, really. Such good guns. I'm so tempted to by more, just gotta budget them in. XD
30-30 ammo is somewhat pricey. I mean, it's a centerfire obviously, so it's gonna be more than most rimfire stuff. It's about $15/$16 for 20 rounds of the cheapest stuff. Can go up to $40-$60 for 20 of the best stuff, though. Not bad as far as centerfire rifles go... but certainly a bit to plink on. XD
Could be a creepy thing. R_JChozon1 wrote:Twitchy eyed hobos staring at you in New York?

Does this get me bragging rights, or do I have to shoot it first?
For the record, I had decided on this like...the morning before I bought it XD. And I really didn't want to change my mind again, so....Eh, heck. It was on sale XD

And that's a great choice. I love me some Savage... and that one is no exception. Whatcha have to put down for it?

$370, and I had a $50 Scheels card from my bow purchase on top of that.
Of course since I'm under 18 and can't fly with it I have FFL transfer fees to deal with for both my rifles. Looking at about $100 worth of them.
So, you like Savage's then?
Think a centerfire would be worth getting over a much higher class/cost Tikka?

Cool, a pretty good price if you ask me. Around here they tend to be in the $400 range or so.
I do like Savage's. They are reliable, shoot accurately and don't cost a kidney.
I've never shot a Tikka, so I can't judge them. I would however feel perfectly content hunting with a Savage. It may not be the best rifle in the world, but it certainly will make you think it's better than the price tag.

Thanks. And it drives great. I'm sooo thankful the 4x4 works. That right there is worth $1000 around here, and it'll come in handy big time come winter.
And... because if that were not the case, life would be too easy. I mean hard. Wait, no... easy? Something.

Not too bad. Just worked a good long day, which is good. More work = more money. And... lemme tell ya, money is needed. Especially after one just buys a vehicle. XD
I've spent about $1400 on the truck so far (including the $1000 I paid for it itself :p), and I may get two new front tires soon-ish because the fronts are worn much more than the rear. That will be at least another $200. Tires for large SUVs/trucks aren't cheap, lemme tell ya. >_<
And I more than likely have a bill from the insurance company coming soon for around $170 (car insurance). XD
Overall though, can't complain. ^_o
