Nah, if you take care of them a good knife will last. Not forever, but longer than your average gun (which will last ages, but need a new barrel eventually).
Nothing lasts forever though. :O
And no, I don't. Need one though. I think Buck's are decent knives for the money. ^_o

Oh they last, the monetary value just drops.
And, just don't get one of the cheap ones.
And, this and this?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
And when it comes to music, I basically don't take anyone's word for anything. Some people think Metallica is the "best band evah" while others say they are "utter garbage". Music, more than any other form of media, comes down to personal taste. My sibs (and parents) absolutely love Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus. I myself can't stand her voice whatsoever, and thus the music does nothing for me. But to call it "bad/garbage" is stupid. Granted, some music is technically better than other stuff, but in the end it's all a matter of opinion.
So yeah.
Feel free to have your opinion, I've got nothing against you or anyone who hates on mah tunes. Just don't try to change my taste in music.

Is it worth waiting a week to buy a pocket sharpener with my knife to save on shipping, or should I just ignore the extra shipping and order it later?

lol
And... it depends on how badly you need the knife. XD
Normally though, I'd say wait and save the cash. Just because... saved pennies here and there truly do add up.

This is very true. XD
For me... a new blade, gun or chainsaw pretty much spells bliss.
That, or Final Fantasy XIII.

You think (legally, not that I care) carrying a knife in one's boot demonstrates intent to use it as a weapon?

Not... really? To me carrying a knife in a boot (with the proper sheath) makes it more accessible, which is always a good thing. I can't tell you how many times I've had to rummage through my pockets looking for my pocketknife just to cut a rope or whatever (I tend to keep multiple things in mah pockets at any given time). >_<

Ah, yeah. I'm looking at carrying my Izula that way. Keep it nice and tucked away so I don't scare people. Not here though. For some reason FL doesn't allow small fixed blade CC.
In ND though, I can, and probably will. See, belt carry would be fine...if I was white XD.
What do you think of a micro survival kit?

lulz
I still need to look up the MI CC laws. I pretty much carry what I want, but we're out in the middle of nowhere so... yeah. Everyone does it. XD
And... depends on how small "micro" is.

Here.
Carrying with unlawful intent
Any person who, with intent to use the same unlawfully
against the person of another, goes armed with a pistol
or other firearm or dagger, dirk, razor, stiletto, or
knife having a blade over 3 inches in length, or any
other dangerous or deadly weapon or instrument, shall
be guilty of a felony, punishable by imprisonment in
the state prison for not more than 5 years or by a fine
of not more than 2,500 dollars.
Note the bolded text. In theory, if you could prove it was for utilitarian purposes, you'd be fine. If you're really deep in the sticks, it's even less of an issue.
And, it would be extremely basic. 550 cord, knife, whetstone, maybe some micro screwdrivers. If I decide I want it geared towards urban use, I'll ditch the whetstone and add some prepaid use anywhere money cards and a prepaid phone. Lock picks are optional.
What do you think of 550 cord btw?

Ah, good points.
And, never used it. I tend to favor regular old twine around here. It's lightweight and insanely strong (and cheaaaaap).
Where can I get this here 550?

They call it 550 cord for a reason: it can support 550lbs. It's better than twine.
Strangling?

I like twine because you can double, triple, whatever it. A little while back our suburban got stuck on a patch of ice, wedged sideways in our driveway (does well in snow, but in the end it's only 2x4). My boss came over that day... took some twine, tripled it and tied it to our hitch. Then he tied the other end to his big diesel and... yank. Suburban is out and twine is in fine shape.
Yeah, I like it. XD
But that cord looks nice, though. And cheap. $10 for 100ft? Not bad at all.
And.
Strangling... I guess. I've got a few critters who have done it regularly. <_<
