This topic amuses me.

I turn 21 in a few months, do you have any advice for my liver?

Eh twenty years worth at this rate.

No, not true. False, even.

Scotch, neat, or two ice cubes and a splash of water if you're just learning.

... Is there such an elixir?

Ever felt like having a mixed drink or is it always neat?

I tried baconizing wokda once. Did not go as planned.

If it's aged, I usually drink it neat. I'll still grab, say, a gin and tonic, if I feel like it these days. I used to mix more often, a stinger or two, Manhattans, one zombie. Only one.

Well apparently the proper method is using bacon fat, freezing, and scraping off the fat, but I just tossed a few strips of bacon and a few chipotles in a jar and waited a couple weeks. It was too salty. Waaaay to salty.

I'd personally just do the scotch neat and a splash of water. I always felt ice ruined the flavors; I have never enjoyed a whiskey with ice. A splash of water does tone down the harshness of the alcohol and let's the flavor stand out more. Now, I do use whiskey stones to slightly chill the whiskey, and occasionally the splash. It's a little weird how that works, but ice doesn't. I blame the melt from the ice.
This all being said, neat without water is also pretty good.

Depends on the job I want it to do. If I'm pulling an all nighter writing I like absinthe. Socially scotch. Trying to relax on a Friday night, beer. I found myself drinking a lot of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, with the occasional Guinness now and again. The cheap stuff when I was just getting drunk for the heck of it. That was usually gin, rarely rum or vodka.

Thus my "if you're just learning" :P

But yeah. Normally neat, undiluted scotch for me.

Yeah, I was agreeing with you on the splash of water, but I advise against ice.

So, favorite scotch?

I had a chance to sample a Laphroaig 27 when I was with all them guys from NY Says Thank You last Sept. It easily overtook everything else. It was also far too expensive to ever hope to drink again.

Wow, that's a pretty penny.

How about per price? I dropped you off at Alcohols "R" Us, what would be the first bottle you reach for?

I'd probably reach for a Glenlivet or Glenfiddich. Pretty decent all around scotch for the money.
