I was having trouble getting through my proofread, since it's a novel length work and there's just so much text to go through. I was wondering if this was a "learn from my mistakes" moment, where next year I do it as a go, or a "suck it up patsy" moment, where I get over myself and put the time in. :P

On the positive side, I've managed to catch myself on several gaffes with the story, and I'm adding a bit more flavor in the stuff portions as I go. I'm actually enjoying the process, since it's less 'strenuous creative thought processing', and more 'spot the typo or fix the plot hole' work. :D And, surprisingly, I'm enjoying reading through the story (most of which I attribute to the euphoria of having written it, rather than it being awesome).

Being so tired your eyes burn?

I can't say that I've ever played a card game where the cards were alive. Sounds creepy.

I find the proofing and editing process easier as well. Sometimes it can be a laugh when you have to stop and ask yourself "I wrote THAT?!?"

Definitely a sign it's time to go to bed. When you wake up that way, though, your day is going to be trouble....

Yeah...at one point, when Jacob was leaving the castle, I clearly said "the Glider can't carry you and your armor." Then, five pages later when I needed him to return, he rode on a Glider...while wearing his armor. -_- I scratched my head over that one, I'll admit. XD Now though, I'm nervous about letting someone else read it, lest I have missed any more gaping holes in the sense-make of the story.

I haven't hit any bits of conversation between characters, or descriptions I've cringed at, though. Which probably indicates an attachment to the story on my part, rather than intelligent writing. :P

How do you feel about the usage of pronouns?

I remember one story that I wrote years ago. It started with a young woman stumbling out of her trailer and landing in the snow after her father had hit her. Later in the story, I have her sneaking downstairs to try and run away from home.... One of those rare, two-story trailers that you hardly ever see, perhaps?

That's why it helps to have a second (or third, or sixth) set of eyes to read through it and point out flaws that you may have overlooked, deliberately or subconsciously.

I tend to use them quite often. Why do you ask?

I keep hitting spots in my story where it's just "he did this, then he did that. Adjective, he did ETC," and I was wondering if there was a rule of thumb, or if I just needed to work at it until I liked it.

It's harder to have family critique your work than strangers?

Not really. Just keep working at it until it seems to flow well for you.
Chozon1 wrote:It's harder to have family critique your work than strangers?
I run into that, but possibly not for reasons you think. Lots of my relatives want to read my works - the hard part is getting any useful criticism from them. The comment "I liked it" is about as useful to me as "I hated it." I need details to determine what I need to improve with the next drafts! That's why sometimes strangers - especially strangers who are fellow writers - are a better source of feedback than relatives.

I thought I replied to this, but that probably happened around the crash.

I love camping! I love it so much, it's the reason I live in the forested mountains of Idaho, about as far out as I can get and still have wireless Internet. ;) It's like I'm camping all the time. The crystal clear skies at night so I can see the stars, the smell of the air in the morning after a rainfall, even sitting on the front porch watching the thunderstorms.... When I live in this kind of environment, I think people must be insane to want to live in a big city.

Sure, we lose power now and then, and sometimes get buried under five feet of snow, but that just ads to the experience. :)

Stinks. I wish I had as much energy as my kids. As someone famous once said, "youth is wasted on the young." There's so much I want to do, but most of the time I just want to take a nap....

I have never played it. Do you recommend it? Is it available for Macs?

I've been playing it on a tablet so I don't know about the computer version, but I aim to try it out soon if I can free up some space on my hard drive. It is available for Mac. It would be a lot of fun to set up a weekly play time for World of Tanks with people from CCG similar to what we were doing with Guns of Icarus.

Steam sales?

I've certainly been there before. I hope to, one day, be that sort of author. ;)

I like them. I snagged a couple of games that had been on my list, and purchased a couple for another friend of mine. (He received Borderlands 2 as a gift, so I had to send him Poker Night at the Inventory 2 because of the unlockables. ;) )
