The Full Monty. Well made, funny... incredibly awkward.

You were telling him about Buddha, you were telling him about Mohammed in the same breath. You never mentioned one time the Man who came and died a criminal’s death...

Well, I've been really sick, so I managed to catch up on a few movies that are, no doubt, probably late the the rental place by now. Oh well, though.
The Full Monty
Perhaps unfortunate that I should have seen this, given its subject matter. Oh well. It was a funny movie, all told, with some pretty good acting all around, and more than its share of uncomfortable moments. B
Frequency
Wow, it's been, what, nine years since I last saw this? Yikes. Time flies. Anyway... pretty interesting concept, decent acting... Most likely, it would've been better if the story hadn't moved into murder-mystery halfway through, simply relying on a half baked plot device that didn't really lead anywhere except the story's inevitable, corny conclusion. C
Once Upon A Time In America
Three hours and fifty minutes. That's how long this movie is. And it's mostly worth it. Actually, it probably could have been longer. Robert De Niro, James Woods, Joe Pesci, Treat Williams... all turn in amazing performances in this movie that twists and turns through what purports to be a gangster movie. In reality, it is not, but instead an analysis of friendship, a character study of two friends during prohibition and beyond. The problem here is that, for a movie that is so long, there aren't enough things that are fleshed out. I wanted to know more about the ending, more about the friendship, than I do. Further reflection, here, does not lead me to any conclusions except for the stupidity of man. And if that is the final reason for this movie, then it is an existentialist film of the highest order. If not, then it is a sublimely flawed movie, one which deserves analysis and study. A+

The Gods Must Be Crazy
This is a classic. Pretty stupid in some bits, but that's what makes it so funny. Undeniably hilarious, and not too bad of acting (not saying that it's superb acting, however). A

Heat
I love director Michael Mann's visions of L.A. Whenever I see one of his movies, most notably Heat or Collateral, I am moved by the way that he fuses music and visuals together with strong characterizations into one whole. This is readily apparent with Heat, a Pacino/De Niro opus containing one of the most intense shootouts I've ever seen in a movie and excellent acting amongst its ensemble cast. Heat is gorgeous, long and complex, an amazing example of how film can show a city and individuals for what they are. A+
Memento
Another movie I haven't seen in a long time. Memento initially struck me as an ambitious movie with an amazing script and great acting. Now, I see it for what it is: an ambitious movie with an amazing script and great acting. A
The Deer Hunter
Yet another De Niro movie... what's come over me, I wonder? No matter. The Deer Hunter is an epic tale of friendship amongst war. For what it is, the movie is quite well done. Unfortunately, scenes that seem completely unnecessary, save to aggravate the viewer, are in abundance, not warranting the just-over 3 hour running time. Artistically and thematically, however, the movie is a success. Each of its actors manages to convey a sort of brilliance by displaying the slow death that each of them is going through on the inside. Smarter editing would have made this picture. B+

The haunted Mansion.
I give it a C for a somewhat uninteresting plot, and not making me laugh as much as I wanted to. I expected more honestly.

The Big Lebowski
I really enjoyed this movie. Funny, smart, well-acted and directed with skill. Just really very profane. A
Grosse Pointe Blank
For the record, I've always liked John Cusack. He's pretty good, and High Fidelity is one of my favorite movies, ever. After hearing from a guy that I work with that this movie is High Fidelity's superior, I threw caution to the wind and rented it. Cute movie. But... it honestly wasn't that funny. And I was surprised that Minnie Driver's head fit on screen. C
Gone Baby Gone
Oh man. This is a movie based on a novel from one of my current favorite authors. And honestly, I thought it was amazing. A

Watched Minority Point with Obigone. Had to have him explain basically the entire movie to me, but I thought raised some good questions about human nature.
