Still, I think the fear is more psychological than anything. You THINK something scary will come at you, but it usually doesn't happen until you least expect it.

Let's just say that Black Plague makes the first Penumbra look like Resident Evil and the first Penumbra makes Resident Evil look like Animal Crossing.

Not sure about Amnesia, though. Frankly, I don't want to know.

Don't forget the spiders. And I was all alone the whole time I played the game. XD

But yeah, that was actually one of the more impressive things about Overture to me. I spent the entire time with fear of something building in my head, and only realized how rare that was after I beat the game. In the RE series, you know what you're afraid of, since it usually jumps at you every 5 minutes. In Penumbra, it's a nameless fear haunting your every step. It was rather a masterful accomplishment in that sense, but I'm not actually sure I liked the feeling. I mean, even after I got a good supply of dynamite and the pickaxe and the dogs were no problem, the nameless fear still made the game terrifying at every new door. Hated the ending though. That was actually what made me sell the game.

But I think I know what you're referring to in Black Plague. I actually owned it, and there was a reason I stopped playing after the first hour or so. XD Being unable to look at your enemy while hiding from them...urfle. Not to mention them critters are darn terrifying.

Pretty amazing games in one way. I still despise them though. >.>
