Chozon1 wrote:Yeah. Medication+Black Friday exhaustion= me collapsing from tiredness early at night and waking up earlier. :D I kinda liked it. Don't need to eat breakfast again, though. Ooh...

Also, the reading was fluctuating like that on the hot end. O_O Which is why I worked a lamp in. At the moment, the hot end stays at 79-83 constantly. It's actually the thermostats fault, as it brings the mat up to a certain heat level, then drops it to a certain level, ETC. to keep it a "standard" temp. Works like an oven/central heating. XD I pulled the bulb off that, and placed it in a normal outlet to make sure it doesn't get too cold or go up and down too much.

I'd like to bring that up a few degrees still...how hot is too hot? I ended up getting a cobra mat instead of Zoo med, and according to the packaging/website it's built to operate at a steady 100.

Also, that's using the digi thermo. I ended up getting the one you recommended. And the heat mat did hit 99 before I plugged it into the thermostat and lowered it down.
Ah, early to bed early to rise is always fun. ^_o

And... that's not good to be fluctuating on the hot end. But you know that, so yeah. XD

And yes, did you get the 6" x 11" mat? The cobra one, I mean. That's the one I've been looking at, and am going to buy it soon-ish and put it in the boa's cage. I'd be curious to see if it really stays that temp. :D

Don't get me wrong, the zoo med heaters are pretty good, and they certainly last... forever. But... they are just too hot at times. And when you're dealing with a small cage, that can be very much a problem. Did you return the zoo med? Hope so, cuz I feel badly for getting you to buy it. XD

Ah, yeah. Those thermos are pretty accurate, so I'd trust it.

Also... too hot would be when you get to the 95 and up temps. 90 ain't gonna kill them, but it's still "warm" for a corn in my experience. I try to give them a basking spot of 85-87, somewhere in there. And a cool end of in the 70s.

It can be tough, I know. If you can't get the temps right, make the hot end 83-85 with the heat mat on, and don't worry about the cool end. (as long as it's not baking or stuffz)

That's what I've got on my king's cage right now, thought it's a bit higher (he seems to like the temps higher). As I've said, I'm short on "small cage" equipment and cash atm, so I gotta make do. XD

Nah. Working off your advice, I figured the 6" x 11" would be to big. Using the thermostat, maybe not. But I got the mini size one anyway. :) I haven't tested it to see if it stays constantly at 100, because I had to set it up quickly. ^_^ And I ended up getting the cobra instead of the Zoo-Med in the beginning, so don't to be feeling any guilt. You've been a MAJOR help through this.

I know it hits 99 easily enough, sorry I didna run tests on it before I tossed it on the thermostat. I will say it needs to be taped on, as the pad itself had no adhesive. I actually like that, in case I need to move it later.

Also, I can do 80-90 fairly easily, and constantly. ^_^ The trick is 85. -_- My red bulb is sitting over the hide (since it's wood, it regulates the temps better, dropping it to 81 in the surrounding area) with inside the hot hide at around 85 I think. It hit 90 this morning, but I touched the heater down a bit. I have to wait and see.

I think I can manage the heat nicely. The cool end is pretty much perfect.

Also, if it's God's will, I'ma leave to go get it in about an hour and a half!

When does he/she need to be fed?

Ah, Okay. So you went with the mini, that's probably good. XD

I've never owned a t-rex cobra mat before, but I hear good things... and really, if it has no stick stuffz... that is freaking awesome, man. I can just put it in the boa's cage directly on the wood floor and that should work. You just gave me a life-saving piece of info. Thanks.

Well, if it's tough to get it at 85 on the hot end then just let it idle at 89-90 and see how the snake likes it. If he's always on the cool end then that's too much, and you'll know you need to turn the heat down. All snakes are different though, so you'll need to see what his personality and preferences are for yourself. XD

Glad you're getting the heat down though, that's awesome. :D

AND AWESOME GET THAT SNAKE

I am hyped for you man. I guarantee you your heart will be thumping with excitement when you go to get him. A lot. XD

What are you asking for for Christmas?

Um... XD

Reptile supplies. Seriously. XD

I'm asking for a 10" heat lamp (I've got 5.5" and 8.5" lamps, but have been wanting and now need a 10"), a 10" lamp metal guard, a 100 watt reg. light bulb, a 100 watt infrared bulb, a 150 watt infrared bulb, 4 digital thermometers, and possibly a 6" x 11" cobra heat mat. All of that runs the total up a bit, so I'll either have to cut it down or add in some of my own money (which is what I'm leaning towards, as I really need all of that stuff).

My mom kinda thinks that's boring... but eh. I'd love getting some of that stuff. XD

Hmm... that's a tossup between Audioslave and Nine Inch Nails.

That's at the moment, at least. RAtM is up there too, as are The Agonist and Lamb of God, I'm just not listening to them right now. XD

Sorry Chozon, missed this:
Chozon wrote:When does he/she need to be fed?
When you first get the snake, give it 3-4 days of being alone and letting it settle in. I know, that will likely be tough, but it's best to give them a while to get used to their new cage before handling them, especially of they're young. (you can still watch him though, which imo is always fun :) )

After that... well, I'll need to see him/be told exactly how big he is to be sure, but a hatchling should be fed every 4-5 days until they're, oh... roughly 8 months old, maybe a little older.

Just feed him/her one pinkie to start with (again, I don't know the exact size of the snake) and take it from there. I'll know more once you lemme know the exact size and all that stuffz. XD

aaaand

Remember... remember to feed dead food. F/T (frozen/thawed) in other words. It's a lot easier getting any snake to eat f/t food when young, and live is a pain (fun to watch, but then you gotta deal with getting them weekly/bi-weekly because you can't really stock up... and keeping them alive, etc.), and not to mention the bigger/older rodents down the road can injure a snake.

Now... after the 3-ish days of waiting are up, put the pinkie in a plastic bag and run warm/hot water over it (not too hot or the pinkie will burst, 4srs) to defrost it. It's gotta be 100% defrosted and feel like it's putting off some heat, because a snake won't touch cold food. Then, take some tongs and grab the pinkie on the butt area (don't squeeze hard, as again it will pop. I just had that happen with my king. lulz, he still ate it... but it's certainly messier XD) and kinda make it "dance" in front of the corn. With colubrids (corns, kings, rat snakes, milks, etc.) that's usually all it'll take, especially when they're young, to get them to eat a defrosted rodent. They're pigs, most of the time. XD

If that doesn't work, lemme know and I'll give you other suggestions on how to get him eating.

Hope that all makes sense, kinda rush-typing right now as I gotta run. XD

Well, the only one I own is their first and self titled album, Audioslave. I will say though that it is excellent. Golden. Amazing.

It's a good starting place, I believe... considering that's what I was told and went with. And I have no regrets. XD

Wow. Nice. Well, if it is not boring to you, that is all that matters. XD

Do you ever scare people with your snakes?

lulz, true enough. XD

Aaaand, no. Not really. XD

I try to get people who are scared of snakes to like them. Seriously, they're a very nice animal and extremely friendly when you get to know them. I don't like how it's always "EEEK SNAKE!". Kinda like... yeah whatever.

I've been bitten once... ONCE by my boa. And that was during feeding time. I didn't have any tongs (figured I didn't need them), so I hand fed her... that was a mistake. She got the rat's middle and my two fingers. Hurt like you wouldn't believe, but hey... was kinda my fault. XD

/ramble <_<

Have you read through all of the Lord of the Rings?
