Muse Games Kicks off Stars of Icarus PvP Multiplayer Playtest with Bombastic New Trailer

It’s go time, cadet, as the Stars of Icarus playtest is now live! In a bombastic new trailer, shown during The MIX Indie Fan Fest, viewers got a taste of what to expect as the PvP multiplayer space shooter opens its hatches to a limited number of players for the very first time ahead of its 2026 release date.

The limited public playtests are open to a few thousand players and run from September 24 to October 5. Sign up via the Stars of Icarus Steam page in order to take part.

In this colorful, team-based dogfighter, you’ll assemble a crew and duke it out with other squads in 5v5 battles. Teamwork makes the dream work and you’ll need to work together closely and support each other strategically if you’re going to make it in the game’s hand-crafted battlefields. You can also find friends to squad up with using the Muse Games Discord.

Personalize your pilot and customize your loadout, selecting from Frigates, Fighters, and Corvettes and jump into maps with diverse designs and ranges of cover. In Stars of Icarus, having great aim at a weapons station is just as important as repairing the ship or captaining the crew to make sure things run smoothly, even on a spaceship!

A competitive ranked mode isn’t available in this playtest, but casual matches can be completed in around 20 minutes. Muse Games will be holding additional playtests before launch, too, so don’t fret if you missed your opportunity this time around!

The Best Crew in the Galaxy: Whether you pilot a Fighter, man the guns of a Frigate or keep the engines and shields running on a Corvette - every player will experience the highs of their victory, and lessons learned from their defeats. Form friendships, alliances, and rivalries as you come back again and again.

Master These Stars: Your success in battle relies upon your strategy and your ability to execute. The ship classes you’ve chosen and your understanding of their strengths and weaknesses, your loadout, and your ability to support each other in a pinch all make the difference.

For Glory (and Bragging Rights)!: Assert dominance over other crews and become renowned as the most lethal squadron around. With ranked modes (available at launch), you’ll have the ability to prove your prowess, too.

Keep it Casual: Matches are designed to be pick-up and play, with 5v5 battles lasting around 20 minutes. Hang out in the pre-game lobby if you want to catch up with your crew or jump straight into your favourite community server and get stuck in.

Stars of Icarus will be released on Windows PC via Steam in 2026.
