My Church teaches us that Heavenly Father does have a physical body and is, obviously, male. That makes this action by the Episcopal Church seem even more bizarre from this point of view.
My sister-in-law is part of the Episcopal Church to the point where she has gone to national gatherings for the church where they vote on church policies, and her dad is a pastor of one. Their church services are a bit more on the "formal" side, but outside of the church they seem to very... lax. Her dad-- again, a pastor-- has straight up said that Revelation was just a dream and has no other significance. My sister-in-law has told me-- and this isn't even a paraphrase-- that they're "not big fans of the Bible".

I just don't get it. If you don't even believe the Bible is reliable and/or true, why are you part of the Christian religion at all?

That's sad :( The Bible is God's word, not a buffet to pick and choose what you like out of it
