Finally bought a mechanical keyboard!

Great for talking hardware, hype, and games outside traditional genres.

I've been meaning to do this for some time. As an experiment, I scraped up $30, went to Ebay, and picked up a Dell at101w.

It scares me every time I go to type; I got so used to my Razer Deathstalker's tiny membrane chiclet keys, and now it feels like typing on thunder.

Spoiler:
That's not me typing, by the way. My hands are practically free of hair.

Mechanical keyboards are the best. They spoil you so quickly.

Already been done. Tried to clock in at work today. The keyboard felt so mushy.

I'm confused...isn't that just like...a keyboard from ten years ago?

I'm not insulting you, because I miss the feel of old keyboards, as well as the relatively easy fixability of them (darn s key just broke. XD). Just...confused.

Yes it is. Yes it is just a keyboard from ten years ago. And it's wonderful.

I use a laptop with a mechanical keyboard, but the keys aren't that big. I do love the old keyboards though because you know when you hit the key you were looking for. My keyboard is so quiet I can't always tell.

I haven't typed on an Alps key in a very long time. I have a mechanical KB here at home (Cherry MX Brown, Logitech G710+) and an old Cherry White keyboard at work (it's not as good as my browns, but not bad).

Mechanical is pretty much the only way to go. I admit chiclet keys aren't bad, but there is no contest.

I would like to check out MX red/black someday. I've already trued Blues. They are okay.

Once you go mechanical... there is no going back.

Mechanical keyboards are very durable and last quite a while. I've seen old Model M's pounding away.

I use a Razer Blackwidow with Cherry mx Blues. I really dig those switches.
The browns weren't as tactile as the blues, and I didn't like that the Red and Black's didn't have the bump.

Never tried an ALPS though.

Welp, in a slight hiccup with my BIOS, apparently my computer isn't too hot with my Dell at101w anymore (which is odd, being that it has a ps/2 connection and doesn't need drivers). So looks like I'm taking suggestions. Gonna go with either blue or browns, and I love that clicky feel.

Arch, what would you say about Cherry MX Blues as a typing/gaming switch?

Feels good to me. Some people prefer blacks or browns because it's easier for double tapping, but I've not had a problem. I'm not so 1337 to need it, I guess.

Really, it's all just personal preference. If you like to feel that tactile bump, go blue or brown. If you like more clicky, get blue. Out of the cherry switches, they are the clickiest.

If you want it to be straight down, get a red or black, and if you prefer heavier keys, get black.
