Well... it was an epiphany for me, anyway.

We all know viewing porn is bad. We all know it's sinful and something to be repented of. The problem is, sometimes the "why" if it can be vague. I mean, yes... we know Jesus said that to look at a woman lustfully was to have already committed adultery with her in one's own mind... But that certainly isn't unique to porn. What is it about porn, in particular, that puts it in its own class?

Well, there's the fact that you're essentially watching people fornicate. That seems pretty self-explanatory... and yet that still doesn't seem to explain why it's so existentially bad.

Plenty of people out there insist that it's perfectly harmless. After all, it's just consenting adults, right? I've even been lectured by one particularly morally bankrupt individual who tried to tell me that kids should have the right to watch that stuff, and that by not letting mine watch it, I was being a bad father.

Can you imagine that?

But what is it that makes it so awful?

Well, there's also the fact that most of the young women involved in it are being exploited. No, that isn't just a right-wing religious talking point. They are. I've done the research and it's true. They go into the industry expecting fun, fame and money, and are burnt out and dumped in about 12-18 months at the most. They commonly get involved in drugs, and when they go back to normal life their previous activity follows them. Do the producers of this material care about that? Nope. Not a fig.

But it can be argued that those problems can be addressed and fixed. Would it still be bad then?

Yes. And for one very simple reason: These women are precious daughters of Heavenly Father, and they should not be degraded like this. Every single one of them. In a very literal sense we are all His sons and daughters and that includes those who have been drawn into that industry... shouldn't the children of the Creator of the world be treated better, thought of better than this?

If you struggle with the temptation to view this material, keep that thought in mind. It's easy to be taken in by a culture that celebrates the most degrading and humiliating activity and calls it "normal." Well, that's what happens when you take God out of the equation.

Other issues to consider is risk of STDs (though they test for them regularly these days)

One of the biggest issues to me is unreal expectations. I'm sure there's a lot of *ahem* enhancements

It's an unhealthy and sinful lifestyle and not one to support

It's addicting

best not to get started on that slippery slope...

It's true that they test for STDs, but even so disease runs rampant. STD tests only mean something if the person isn't out there doing things off camera, and many performers also prostitute themselves on the side, either as escorts or working at legalized brothels such as those in NV.

The unreal expectations cause even more trouble than most people know. Fun fact: Right now, the demographic with the lowest instance of impotence is: 40+ year-olds. Why? Because men of that age passed through puberty before the advent of readily available, free Internet porn. Men younger than that who have been exposed to it their entire adolescent-adult life are having issues with dysfunction severe enough that there was recently a statistic released showing men in these age demographics are having sex at an all-time low rate. (That particular study blames video games, but... no. Video games have been readily available since the early 1980s.)

The problem is that the image of sex they see in adult material isn't anything like the reality, and they don't know how to cope with the difference. Meanwhile, guys who went through puberty prior to the mid 1990s didn't enter into adulthood with these expectations, impressions and assumptions, and so experience far fewer 'performance' problems.

Though it is still hard some days, I am fully glad I gave it up. The disease that pornography is can perhaps only been seen with crystal clarity after breaking free of it. It is simply too powerful when combined with hormones and natural tendencies to allow to run free, and for me the right answer was the removal of it from my life. Highly recommended.

Right you are.

And it's growing every day, getting its tentacles into more and more people. There have been literally tens of thousands of young women who have been drawn into that stuff, and have appeared in at least one video. Unless you live in the middle of nowhere, there's a good chance you've met someone who's been in it without even realizing. It makes me afraid for my daughters as they get into the age to be targeted by these purveyors of smut, but also my sons who could fall into the addiction.

Imagine how Heavenly Father feels, seeing His children used like this.
