Good article. Most of it I agree with. We believe that when Christ ascended into heaven that the Holy Spirit was sent down to Earth to guide us until Christ comes back. Of course we have an uncanny ability to ignore God and do our own thing anyway :P

We sure do. That's true whether we're guided by the Spirit or by a Prophet. (Or both.) Humans are stubborn.
