FAITH COUNTS LAUNCHES 3rd 'FILM YOUR FAITH' VIDEO CONTEST

Fastest-Growing Multi-Faith Online Platform Awards $32.5k in Prizes for Best 2-Minute-or-Less Film Showcasing the Positive Power of Faith

FaithCounts.com

WASHINGTON, D.C. – April 3, 2018 – Faith Counts—the leading and fastest-growing multi-faith online platform—launches its third annual Film Your Faith contest, awarding $32,500 in prizes to top films of two minutes or less showcasing the power of faith in a positive light.

Filmmakers may submit their work beginning April 3, 2018, with a May 19, 2018, deadline for entries.

“This is your chance to show the world what faith is all about,” said Faith Counts Communications Director Kerry Troup. “What does the world look like through your unique lens of faith? Pull out your phone or grab your camera gear, tap record and show us in two minutes or less how faith changes lives, relationships and communities for the better.”

Following the entry deadline, a panel of judges drawn from national faith leaders narrows the field to 10 finalists, then selects a Grand Prize winner who takes home $20,000. The film earning Honorable Mention wins $2,500. After judging, voting opens to select a fan favorite from the eight remaining films with a $10,000 prize.

Film Your Faith judges currently include:

Rich Peluso, Evecutive Vice President, AFFIRM Films
Steve Taylor, film producer (BLUE LIKE JAZZ)
Kam Williams, Rotten Tomatoes critic
Matt Baer, film producer (UNBROKEN)
Simon Rivera, 2017 Film Your Faith grand-prize winner
Bob Waliszewski, director of Plugged In
Contest organizers will soon be announcing additional nationally known judges.

Simon Rivera of Moseley, Virginia, won last year’s Grand Prize with his film Common Thread.

“Storytelling through videography allows me to express my creativity in a way that captures emotions and feelings that words alone sometimes fail to convey,” Rivera said. “The Faith Counts video contest appealed to me because it provided a platform to not only exercise this creativity, but to do so on the subject of faith, which is the foundation of my worldview and personal beliefs.”

The Faith Counts Story
In 2014, several faith leaders came together to address a trend of declining church attendance and declining religiosity. They saw how an increasingly secular culture left too many people in a spiritual void that excludes them from meaningful, deep connections to the people and world around them.

Online, they saw how young people were willing to share quite literally every personal, intimate detail of their lives—except the detail of their faith. There was and is a growing sense that faith should somehow be kept private. Many are reluctant or even embarrassed to share how their faith makes them who they are.

While each of their respective denominations were doing their own outreach to combat these issues, the faith leaders knew they would be more effective working together. And so, Faith Counts was launched in October 2014 as an attempt to positively influence the culture and to gently remind people that faith is a good thing.

FaithCounts.com encourages people of all faiths to share their personal faith stories and thoughts by posting to the website, sharing on social media with #FaithCounts or creating a video for the site.

Faith Counts has nearly 600,000 followers and has become the leading, fastest-growing multi-faith online platform with an engagement rate three times the industry standard.
