Only purchase this DS game if you are capable of handing an extremely challenging racing game.

And if you don't mind losing - a lot.

But otherwise it is a very solid title.

how does the spirit stuff play out? (Not familiar with the toys)

They have some strange designs like a skull, snake with a mouth open. Stuff like that. I did not see any spiritual content in the levels, and don't know of any with the balls - our youngest has a loop track and a few balls he plays with. Not sure if there is a cartoon for it or not.

The game is purely racing - on strange tracks that go odd directions.

The manual mentioned attacks but the racing is so quick I saw no reason to even mess with that.
