Thank you Black Shell Media for sending us this game to review!

Raining Blobs is a pixel drawn fun and fast-paced arcade style puzzle game where you have to match paired falling blobs of the same color.  However, in order to make them disappear, there has to be two blobs of the same color with a star in them.  Adjacent, diagonal, and any touching blobs of the same color will disappear along with the starred blobs.

The blobs are never ending and their speed increases as the player levels up.  A warning siren will sound when a temporary speed spike is about to begin.  They can be brutal so you have to have good reflexes in order to survive.   Another challenge is dealing with your opponent’s garbage sent your way as they make successful combinations.  By default, the garbage blobs are clear, but they can be set to multi-colored in the game’s options menu.  The only way to clear garbage blobs is to clear adjacent blobs.

Raining Blobs
Highlights:

Strong Points: Fun matching game that supports eight players!
Weak Points: No online play, no male characters
Moral Warnings: Some revealing outfits

Other game options include the ability to change the number of wins, starting colors (maximum six), maximum garbage dumps, the ability to clear garbage, and the ability to count diagonal matches.  To make the game more challenging, you can enable invisible blobs (it’s disabled by default).

There are two game modes: Arcade and Tournament.  The arcade mode supports up to eight players (with the possibility of 16 players in the near future!) via local co-op or CPU powered opponents.  Sadly, there is no online multiplayer at this time. The goal in the arcade mode is to survive the longest.  The tournament mode pits you against increasingly difficult one on one AI matches to learn the back stories of these anime styled girl characters.  My son was bummed that there are no male characters to choose from.

The pixel artwork is neat and I liked the animated backdrops.  The playable characters are anime like in appearance and some of them wear clothing that accentuates their cleavage.  Other than that, this game is pretty child safe and I enjoyed playing against my children (and winning every time!)

Score Breakdown:
Higher is better
(10/10 is perfect)

Game Score - 82%
Gameplay - 16/20
Graphics - 7/10
Sound - 8/10
Stability - 5/5
Controls - 5/5

Morality Score - 97%
Violence - 10/10
Language - 10/10
Sexual Content - 8.5/10
Occult/Supernatural - 10/10
Cultural/Moral/Ethical - 10/10

The game’s interface is well thought out and I like how the blobs on the bottom that can benefit from the incoming ones illuminate when aligned properly.   Like many matching games, you can see a preview of the upcoming pair.

While playing with a keyboard is possible, a gamepad is definitely the way to go.  Especially with multiple players.  We were able to play using Xbox One and 360 controllers without issues.

The chiptune background music is catchy and there’s plenty of variety including pop and jazz tunes and everything in between.  The sound effects are decent and get the job done.

Overall Raining Blobs is a cute matching puzzle game that is pretty well polished for such a small development team.  I look forward to future updates for more players and hopefully online play.  The asking price is a reasonable $9.99 and I recommend it for competitive gamers who like matching puzzle games.

About Us:

Christ Centered Gamer looks at video games from two view points. We analyze games on a secular level which will break down a game based on its graphics, sound, stability and overall gaming experience. If you’re concerned about the family friendliness of a game, we have a separate moral score which looks at violence, language, sexual content, occult references and other ethical issues.
