Story

Vegetarian aliens have taken over the earth! You must eliminate their food source; fruit (shouldn?t it be vegetables?) to conquer them. That?s right, you must travel through thirty-five levels and eliminate all the fruit you see. It sounds easy but there are many obstacles in your way.

How do I fight?

Well you?re a little ball that can bounce around and change colors. You have to match your color with the color fruit you are trying to destroy. Be careful because there are colored skull tiles too. If you hit the same color or a wooden skull tile you?ll explode. Be careful what you bounce off of!

Moving on

Once you have a level cleared you will gain a star. Some areas require you to have a certain amount of stars before you can move on. You can get to various storerooms by entering tubes. You can choose the order you progress but as mentioned before other areas have star requirements. If you die, you can restart in the level you were in.

What do I fight?

Well half the battle is controlling where your ball character goes. Other than that you?ll encounter Zeppelin balloons, guardian sparks and blue devil heads that would be in your best interest to avoid. Sparks are killed by water and the blue devil heads can?t touch the ground or they will die. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do to fight back, just steer clear of your enemies.

Special items

You can use a bomb to smash blocks; it has no effect on water blocks though. Ice blocks freeze your movement until you hit a non-ice object. Teleports are available for you to go to another part of a storeroom quickly.

Graphics

Nothing too spectacular here, as most puzzle games are not known for their great graphics. The levels are clearly laid out and the objects are easy to distinguish.

Sound

The background music is MIDI (this uses built-in sounds on your sound card)and has a nice variety. There are some sound effects for smashing blocks and bouncing around. If you find either annoying you can disable them.

Control

You can use the arrow keys or the number pad keys on your keyboard. There is no customization available. I did notice the mouse movement was a little slow at the main screens.

Appropriate?

This game is perfectly clean unless you object to the skull tiles and blue devil smashing stones. I would recommend this game to anyone; it?s good, clean, and free fun.

Did you say free?

Yes this game is freeware and it?s available for download from CCGR or from the maker http://www.blueskied.com/fruits.htm It?s a little under a megabyte. I would recommend this game for any puzzle lover.

Christ Centered Gamer looks at video games from two view points. We analyze games on a secular level which will break down a game based on its graphics, sound, stability and overall gaming experience. If you’re concerned about the family friendliness of a game, we have a separate moral score which looks at violence, language, sexual content, occult references and other ethical issues.
